Default 6L90 vs 4L80 on C10 Cruiser

Trying to decide which trans to run. Either a low mile 6L90 + LSA stall or rebuilt 4L80 + 300mm Circle D 2400rpm stall. These would be behind a 4000lb 2wd C10 with a 416 n/a LS3. The truck will always be a cruiser. It might see the dragstrip once, and when I get tired of the n/a power it could possibly get a Magnuson at low boost. Truck has a built 10-bolt with 3.42 gears and 28" 275/60/15 Mickey radial.

I definitely want to hook on the street and I'm wondering if the 6L90 first gear might be a bit much with the 3.42s. I'm also worried I won't ever get the 6L90 to shift as crisp/confident as the 4L80. I do know the 6L90 would be the better freeway trans, and some say they're fun for the street because they downshift to the right gear since there are more of them.

Any feedback guys? I know 99% of people will say 4L80 but I'm not building a drag truck, I'm building a cruiser to go wot on the street.

If you “plan” on keeping it N/A and keeping those gears, I’d do the 6sp without a doubt. If a rear gear swap is in the cards that changes things.

Just save the extra coin and go 6l80 with zl1 converter or aftermarket of your choice. I've beat the snot out of my 6l80, it's all in the tuning, it shifts so crisp that it will chirp them thru 4th. The tuners really have them figured out now, or at least mine does, he street tuned the truck for over 5 hours one day for me. It's amazing what a difference that made in trans tuning, it was dragging the 3rd and 4th change in 4x4 at the track and now it blows thru shifts like there is no load...

How do you mean? Gear swaps are pretty easy in the grand scheme of things. I actually think the rear gears are a tad aggressive for this thing as it sits. I would have rather done 3.23s or 3.08s with the 6-speed considering the short 28" tall tire.

Smokin, any vids of your truck shifting? Are you stock stall converter?

Well that didn't work. It's stock stall for now that I'll be going to that ZL1 converter here soon.
