Default 4L80, 6L80, 6L90 options to replace 4L60

I have to ask because I am embarking on replacing my broken 4L60 with a 4L80 trans or whatever is best. Remember I am 4x4 SCSB so it has to apply. Just schooling myself up here.
What year 4L80 is best? I know revisons have been made through out its lifespan in production, and it is supposedly a newer version of the Turbo 400 trans.

Are there any other variations of the 4L80 that have been used to do this swap, I.E.: newer variations with 6 speed capability?

6L80, 6L90?

What has been done and what will work in a SCSB 2002 4x4?

I have never rebuilt a trans before but I am wondering how hard it would be to go through the majority of it. Like clutches and a kit like KY did in his epic write up.
I am not too trusting of many trans re-builders especially ones that are two-5 states away for some obvious reasons. Plus when it goes bad then what?? A million phone calls later you still have a busted trans in your truck that someone (me) has to swap out.
I don't like doing **** 2-5 times to get it right.

i would get a low mile one.. HD2 shift kit.. install and ride..

my brothers work truck had 375k miles on it with no service to the trans but ever now and again.. maybe every 100k.. it sounds like a procharger but its still pulling the 11k # truck around..
