Nothing wrong with the 5.3, just dont expect that kind of power out of it with any form of reliability. You might get that power out of it once maybe twice before it destroys itself, if youre lucky.

If you look at the back of it you will see a round metal plate on the left side. It has the model number stamped on there.

The manual shift half ton case is an NP 261, the 2500 case is a NP 263. There are a couple others depending on if they are autotrack or electronic shift non-autotrack. Its easiest just to look.

But then I think GM changed the supplier from NP to something else on the gmt900+ platforms.

well Its definitely pushing the limits... I think it will lift the head from too much cylinder pressure if anything... smaller internals, smaller stroke= less weight slinging around and less stress.... just my theory
