Default 6l80E

The weak link for the nnbs silverado's is the old 4 speed. Well all know the gears are to far apart and it sucks up a lot of power. I have read stuff saying the the 6l80E will be out in the 5.3 and up for 08 and also have read for 09 model years. I hope GM doesn't wait that long or its will start to lose sales to the 5.7 toyota and there 6speed. I just see it being a major sticking point for the new and improved(all but the tranny) trucks.

I was wondering people thoughts and if they had any good info on them?

I think Gm was having problems trying to get the Active fuel management and the 6l80E to work together. Not to mention they didn't have the manufacturing capacity for the new trans. to debut in the trucks as well as the caddys.

And no the 2007 cadillic escalade doesn't have active fuel managment yet I went to a dealer and check them out! And they should have it by 2008. I figured the trucks will get the 6 speed and active fuel managment at that time as well.

The denalis have the 6l80E. I have talked a little bit about swapping to one of them instead of a built 4l65e. I ma waiting for someone to figure out a piggy back system for the tranny and come up with some hard parts. I would put in 4.10 gears in my truck if I had that tranny.

I just am disapointed when I see the new vmax only run 15.5 with 367 hp. And the Tundra's run 14.5 and the titian run 15.2 on the same day. My other thought was has anyone heard anything about the 6.2 being in the nnbs other then in a SS version. The vamx only put down 297 hp and 291 lb tq comapred to the tundra's 320hp not sure the tq and the titians 291 hp and 301 lb tq

I think the VortecMax's are way detuned. They have the same heads and intake as the L92. I am not sure but I think they share the same cam as well.

I think as soon as the tuning and VVT aftermarket cams are out there 450hp would be easy with a tune, cam, and bolt-on's for the L76.

And the reason for the detuning is the transmission.

Face it guys, GM has a shitty 1500-level transmission....it is an obsolete, dressed-up turd (700R4) and no amount of heat treatment, cryogenic freezing, etc. is going to change the fact that the 4L60/65/70E has no business in a vehicle making more than 300HP.

While everyone else has a 5-speed or 6-speed transmission in ALL of their vehicles, GM still has 80's technology and thinking with a 4-speed tranny.

Theres a number of guys running around with built 4L60E/4L65E transmissions out there. Maybe you just havent found a good builder yet.

Im not saying its a great transmission but to say a 4L60E cant be built to handle over 300 hp is incorrect. It does have it limitations but well over 300 hp if built correctly.
