There's an extremely high chance they were going to sub it out to a trans shop and mark up the trans shop's bill. All the shops I have worked at do that.

Was likely 3500-4000 at the trans shop.

3000 if you do it yourself

I just paid $4840 for one thru Zero Gravity. Jim told me the core price is currently outrageous. Even for a "new" GM one, which he said are GM remans

I had to order some other goodies too, but ZG was the cheapest new or rebuilt 6L on the web

Ouch. Is that a built one? I know nothing about zero gravity

And yeah the core is $2000 at the dealer, and it is a rebuild. But I feel good about it being a GM rebuild and that they do so many. I'm sure they worked out all the kinks a long time ago and should have all the newest trans and converter updates.

I just wish the trans I received wasn't so much uglier than the one I pulled out lol.

I arranged it to where I had the old one out when they delivered the new one so that I wouldn't have to mess with the core charge.

Extra clutches and some drum welding. Core and the conversion kit are what drove the price for me

I did a rebuild in mine last summer and it was about 2800 if memory serves me correct. My cousin was sales manager at a local trans shop so I definitely got the hook up on pricing.

I really like all that info about the trans tuning. Really need to get myself an HPTuners cable and go through my tune and make those adjustments.

So cool man... High five on a good plan.

I bite my tongue all day long on these forums about the things and ideas I see. Not that one...

I had a long battle in my head about getting rid of my 04 Sierra. It was a uber rare model and I loved that truck. But I hated the 4 speed and I never even considered swapping a 6 speed in, instead I paid over 20k for a 6 speed and it came with a free truck.

That was likely a at cost price, likely no labor. All the trans guys I talked to told me they really don't jack with rebuilding them because the parts cost as much as a whole trans.

They did offer a rebuild, but it was only 200-300 less than just buying one. So I went the GM rebuild route, partially because I wanted to do it myself anyway.

So I watch and read all you guys post about regretting getting rid of your NBS trucks. And I love mine to death, she's been part of my entire adult life (almost) and I just couldn't bring myself to can her over a silly trans. But my lifestyle requires low gears and having to put 5.13s in to get a decent 1st with the 4L80 just wasn't my cup of tea. Then add in a Gear Vendors to get some OD back on road trips and a 9" long rear driveshaft and I just wasn't about it

Enter the 6L swap with some upgrades to cope with the 500hp I plan to have come out the back 🤘🏻

Plus the 6L was cheaper than gears/labor/Gear Vendors 😂
