It's too complicated electronically. So far I think the only way to do it is to swap in a Gen IV engine with it as well with all the GenIV computer/electronic stuff. The 6l80 really sounds like a great swap, I've looked into it myself, because not only do you get 2 more gears, but you also get a stronger tranny AND it would save me a gear swap because my 3.42s become like 4.10s with the 4l60

Well I figure soon enough that someone should come out with a stand alone unit for it, and that would be a great investment, but I dont know the dimentions on it, what different torque converter would be needed, or if one is needed, will it bolt up to the same cross member? just all the basic questions needed for a swap. I cant find online anything else physical about this tranny, but I have heard that it isnt much stronger than the 4l60e, so I wanted to hear first hand what people have experienced with it.

It's considerably stronger than the 4L60e since it was built to handle the L92 engine. It's rated for 480 lb/ft TQ I believe. Physically I think it's almost a direct bolt in, it's like 1 inch shorter. So some slight modification would be required.

You would think a standalone unit would be here by now, but apparently they have been working on it for 2 years now. That gives you an idea about how complicated it is.

If you want to read more about the tranny I suggest you search under Speartech here. They swapped a LS2/6l80 into a 2000 rc.

Open Wide did it, but he also swapped in the L92 and all it's corresponding electronics.

If you have any other questions I think you should PM him directly. He did say clearly though the 6.2/6l80e was vastly superior to the 6.0/4l60e. Something about the L92 revving way faster than the LQ9
