Default 6.0L Dually w/Allison??

I see 8.1L's and Diesels with the Allison transmission. It must be a better towing tranny than the 4L80E. Has anyone done the sway?

As of now all I did to make my 4L80E tow better was adjust the shift points to get it to downshift early to get up to speed and then it coast in 4th for cruising. The problem with that is when I am not towing and I give her a lil gas it wants to scoot around town a lil quicker as well. I would think that would burn more gas due to downshifting more.

I would swap a 6l90 in over the Allison!
But I doubt you could do either easy and both would be expensive. You can buy alot of gas for the cost of the swap not to mention the Allison will eat alot of power from the 6.0L.

Some have swapped the 6l80/90 in to the NBS trucks so it can be done. The biggest catch is the need for a 58x reluctor ring and use of the later style PCM.

The Allison eats up alot of power.. unless your putting out some serious power i dont see why the 4L80E wont work for you?
Remember the 8.1L is a big block with alot of torque down low.. and so is the Dmax..

Not sure if that helped ya, but i tried.
