Default 5 Speed Whining noise

Hey all,

I have a 1993 Chevy 2500, 350 TBI, 5 speed and I just got it on the road. In 1st, 2nd and a little bit of 3rd I get a loud whining noise. It like a whine in the trans and not the rear end. It doesnt do it while slowing down with the clutch out or when the clutch is depressed or in 4th or 5th at all. Its pretty loud. I was just wondering how much of a whine a manual tranny should have? I've never owned a truck with a 5 speed. Thanks a bunch.
