Default 4wd-2wd

So i only need 4wd during the winter and i would like to be able to run 2wd for better gas mileage and... of course.... less drivetrain loss

So. I would need ds, hubs, output shaft.... and then i get lost.

What's the difference between an output shaft and tailshaft?

Can i remove the tailshaft housing and replace it w/ a 2wd one and call it a day in the trans dept? Or does the trans have to be completely removed and disassembled to get at it?

What about speed sensors?

Can anyone walk me through the whole tailshaft deal?

30% drivetrain loss pisses me off.... and i have almost no use for it aside for when it snows in utah and i go up there.

if your goin to all that trouble just take the front driveshaft out and pull front axle's?? just leave the outter part of the shaft goin through the hub (wheel) bearings. then in winter just put it back in ......

hahahaha candy and diet soda... very well put
but yeah.. seems a little assinine 2 go 2wd 2 change it back in a matter of what 4 months? unless u live in the great "rape me in the *** all yr long" desert. But anyway. I think u can just strip the shafts out of the front and it'll be fine or u have 2 take the shaft going 2 the transfercase as well. Not real sure on the 4-2 conversions..
