Wow, didn't know that. I will definitely not do that when I do my swap in a few weeks.

The first time I built an 80e was the last time I ever went full throttle with the selector in 'D' lol. Never had an issue, but better safe than sorry...

I was waiting for the guy in the video to say if you have a 4L60E you are fucked either way.

Well... I cannot agree with that representation of the Roller Clutch. It's misleading to say the "only thing transferring power from the input shaft to everything behind the input shaft is the roller clutch". That's false. The turbine shaft drives the overdrive carrier assembly containing the planet gears, each with 26 teeth. The sun gear (also 26 teeth) is part of the overrun clutch housing which contains the roller clutch. The ring gear (78 teeth) is attached to the forward clutch housing. There is a 3:1 relationship between the diameter and teeth of the ring gear and both the sun and planet gears in this particular assembly. The majority of the torque is transferred from the carrier to the ring gear directly by the planet gears. The sun gear wants to rotate the opposite direction but the roller clutch holds against this torque in an amount equivalent to the gear ratio bias, which in this case is 1/3 of the input torque.
(Number of Ring Gear Teeth = Sun Gear Teeth + Double the Planet Gear Teeth)
Since on the subject, in overdrive where the 4th clutches are holding the sun gear stationary and the roller clutch is freewheeling, the 4th clutches have to hold against 1/4 the turbine shaft input torque, which is also equivalent to the overdrive ratio of 25% or .75:1.

The roller clutch is critical but it's not doing as much work as is suggested in that video.

In terms of power handling the Pre-2001 4L80-E has the roller clutch assembly with the larger diameter rollers in it. 2001+ units have the smaller rollers with anti-skewing shoes. I'm not sure why a lot of websites refer to the "good ones" as from 91-96, it's actually 1991-2000.
