4l80e too cold?
#1
is there such a thing as to cold of a tranny? i have a tru cool 40k on my 2500HD and the other night it dropped down to 30* and the tranny got to 105 after driving for like 45 min at night.
I was also wandering if the intake temps can be too cold? i had 34* that same night reading from the MAF

The cooler the better. Only risk with cold air is that if you have bypassed the throttle heater the blade can freeze open.
105 isn't a bad temp for the transmission- it may make TCC lockup not happen though.

The fluid is designed to work optimally from 90-160 degrees or so. Engine oil is much the same way. Now running an engine at 105 degrees has it's obvious drawbacks, including but not limited to seals, rings, and metal deterioration, but the transmission is perfectly happy if it sits around 120* or so and I'm sure the builder would be happy with that number too. Speaking of which, lets ask a builder!

Once the trans fluid temp gets to 68* the tcc will then be able to lockup. If its taking to long to reach this then tying the cooler lines back into the radiator first and then into the external cooler might not be a bad idea for the winter months.
