Default 4L80e Solenoids working?

Just curious to know if my shift solenoids are working correctly... if I shift the truck in manual gears 1,2,3 are those gears being operated electronically by the solenoids to get the truck rolling or is it mechanically being applied by direct drum? If the truck moves in all gears and even reverse is that a good sign everything is operating how it should?

pretty sure the solenoids still control the shift valves regardless of what gear you are in on the shifter. when you go to man 3 2 or 1 the overrun clutches are applied and so are bands, 2-1 and the low reverse for 2nd and first respectively. but im a total trans amateur so maybe one of the trans gods may chime in
