No. Stock, a th400/4l80s feed the entire 3rd gear apply piston in reverse, but only half for 3rd gear. This mod makes it feed the entire are for both.

I looked for my intermediate clutch snap ring from the transgo hd2 kit but after about 2 hours with no luck I gave up. I called my trans parts distributor to get an Alto snap ring {part # 028252-106 from the GM TH400/475 (3L80/3L80HD) powerpack} which should be the same thickness (.106") as the transgo and they didn't have it. They matched up another snap ring from a Forward/direct clutch from a 727 transmission that is .106" thick. My question is has anybody else used this snap ring in place of their intermediate clutch snap ring?

The 727 snap ring's mouth, for lack of a better term, measures roughly .465", which looks to be larger than the mouth of the snap ring pictured on the hd-2 instructions. I cant really put my calipers to the transgo instructions and expect accurate measurement so I will measure the stock snap ring. The outside diameter of stock 80e and the 727 sr's are almost identical with the stock 80e ring measuring larger by about 3/16". The stock snap ring's mouth is roughly 1.78". The 727 sr is obviously stronger but my main concern is that the 727 replacement snap ring won't have enough force to keep it in place due to the smaller outside diameter and . I obviously can't gauge how much I am compressing the 2 sr's.

I incorporated some dimensions for future use of members. Not all of the measurements are important to this question.

what is the best way to lodge the th350 parking pawl into my case? Locktite, high temp resin, etc? Do I need to ream out the orifice? The outside diameter is bigger than the diameter of the hole. I would hate to crack the case by pounding it in as my brother's transmission teacher did when he was installing a rear bushing in my brother's freshly powdercoated 700r4.

For the guys that do the dual feed setup with a stock valve body separator plate: How big are the holes you drilled? How does the truck shift?

The TF8 snap ring will work just fine and no need to worry about the gap opening. I use the same snap ring often. Make sure to clock it at the 3:00 position in the case so it does not rub the direct drum. The cup plug I just use a punch on the inside diameter of it and it goes in with not to much effort. Its like a mini freeze plug and will go in pretty easy. As for the feed holes that would really depend on the converter being used. You could always start around .090 for all there holes to see how you like it.

Well after about 150 miles I went to put in my Circle d in and I found my forward clutch drum thrust washer had been torn apart. I want to get a rollerized unit but I am also wondering what else could fail at this point so I don't have to rebuild this unit again after I rebuild it this time.

Thats kind of strange to see that washer fail. Was this the plastic factory washer between the hub and the direct drum or the washer on the forward drum to clutch hub? Did you grease this washer in place before assembly? Bearings are cool but in most cases are not needed.

It is part 612 on page 58 in the ATSG manual. ATSG has it listed as "Washer, thrust clutch hub housing"


It is between the Forward Clutch Hub and the Forward Clutch Housing Assembly. It wasn't plastic, it was the copper looking material.
