Converter sticking "normally" wont cause bellhousing to not separate..... Would nit air hammer anything if you mushroom the dowels you will never get it apart
You're missing a bolt or bolts somewhere. It may look like a stud with thread sticking out.
GM part # 15724226
There is a total of 8, one at the top center, one on the Left side below the head. 1 direct above and 1 directly below Dowel pin to locate bellhousing and 2 across the lower portion.
The right side below the head is not used due to the cylinder being so close to the edge of the block. Most LS Blocks are not drilled for it.
Mr. Brick, I'll quadruple check tonight. It can't hurt to be super sure!!
If you beat on the dowels they can push through the block. You can also break the block as well. Definitely don't want to do that...
Assuming you have the starter out the plastic cover on the side of the passenger side of the block should also be out. There is one on the driver side that also needs to be removed.
Even if the torque convertor was stuck in place, you should still be able to get the bellhousing off/loose from the engine.
Usually when an engine locks up, I have to pull the trans while the convertor is stuck to the Flywheel.
I have pulled them from Fire jobs were they are all rusty and corroded but I have always been able to get them to wiggle free. occasionally a dowel will come out with the bell housing but I have always been able to get them out.
