I don't like all the threads about 80E's going out. These are suppose to be the fix all for transmissions. I feel for you. I hate pulling a transmission myself.

a little update.....

Finished pulling the trans today, then I got motivated and tore into the trans. And of course as luck would have it, I dont have a 12point socket at home to remove the center support bolt. So close, yet so far away. I can spin the output shaft and hear the noise, so I must be getting closer.

It is the fix, my trans has held up very well for what I put it through.

The trans I ordered through Speed Engineering almost three years ago. I know very very little about the trans, other than the fact it is a very old style housing (has the oil cooler line at the same location as the 60e)

***UPDATE***

Well, I got the output carrier out. I found I lost the needle bearing in one of the planet gears...................

What caused the bearing to fail??????????

Will the 02 5 pinion planetary fit the older trans?

I'm no expert but I would have to say the rear mount turbo...Time to switch to a front mount.

Sorry about the trans but glad you found the problem.

Somewhere in my readings I remember an oiling issue in the planetaries but I believe it was someone not recommending going to a 5 gear because of it.
