Default 4l80e HD-2 shift kit, new 4th bolt ?

The "new 4th bolt" that transgo includes is .110" I.D. compared to the stock .161" bolt. This bolt is under the valve body near the front of the tranny. Does anyone know what circuit this is for and what the new bolt does?

Transgo

Stock

It did not tell me to install the bolt in the instructions.

I think it is included to install when the trans comes apart for a re-build or to install the 16 springs on the plates inside. I think the hole is so large in the stock bolt that it breaks when you re-torque it. The transgo bolt has a smaller hole so it is stonger.

I hope that I didn't need to install the bolt because everything is sealed back up now.

Thanks for the help!

Transgo said the bolt they supply is stronger than the stock one due to the hole being smaller and should be used if the stock one needs to be removed. It doesn't have anything to due with changing a circuit. Good for me since it is still in the box and not in my tranny!

I don't know what the going rate should be for a new 80E, I would guess $1000-1200? What is the asking price?

That bolt supplies the fourth clutch. The bore diameter difference between the two is insignificant, this does not limit the circuit. The apply volume is increased by enlarging the hole "A" in the separator plate. My personal preference on hole "A" is to make it one "stage" larger than the rest of them when you are drilling.
