here is mine, so anything from the top hole to just maybe 1/8-1/4 over that should be ok?

Hard to tell from pic but where ever the valve body meets the case. Everyone I have done has been 1/2" above full for the new hot F.

Its crazy to me that they would basically recommend you underfill the tranny... this seems like a pretty straight forward thing to design correctly.

well i thought it was because of useing a 4l80 tube and 4l60 dipstick.

from my top mark is only maybe 1/8-1/4 to where the valve body is bolted up, so i figured if im at the full mark im doing good

Whenever I put my pan on, I marked the dipstick right where the pan meets the case. Can anyone tell me how much higher up is it where the valve body meets the case? Trans is an 01.

Should be correct. The pan rail and the VB surface are machined all at the same time.

From my perspective the tube and dipstick hashes are irrelevant. After trans install, pull the pan off with the tube and dipstick installed and mark the dipstick at the level of the interface of the case and pan. This is the new "full" line. Some even advocate 0.5 qt over this mark. This is an absolutely critical aspect of install. I've read people speculate the reason GM put the full mark lower was to avoid the trans puking fluid and starting a fire. A stock vehicle won't see the G-forces a heavily modded one will hence no issues with fluid starvation with the lower level.

How does this relate to the 4l60? Should I be filling up over my hot line? If nobody knows, I guess I'll check next time I have the pan off.
