4L80E fill level

What is the proper fill level for an 80E? Is it to the bottom of the valve body? Where the valve body meets the case? Somewhere in between? I just want to verify that my 80E dipstick tube with the 60E dipstick is going to show the correct fill level.

Thanks

I did cross referencing and it did appear that the 60E and 80E dipsticks were the same, but my 60E dipstick doesn't fit snug in the 80E tube when locked. It will seal fine, but it's not a good tight fit like it was with the 60E tube.

Anyways, I did a little research and it seems like the recommended oil level when running and hot is where the pan meets the case, or up to 1/4" higher. I'll have to see how this correlates to the markings on the dipstick.

Yes, Where the valve body meets the case to .25 above that point. On my setup when I checked this it was .5" above the F mark on the dipstick.

I'll have to check mine next time I drop the pan. I guess I just assumed the F mark would have been spot on. .5" is a lot though.

Dont ever trust the dipstick. Install the dipstick and then remove the pan. Mark the case to oil pan interface level on the dipstick. That's your new "full" mark.

so just where the pan and actual trans case meet?

Yes, or up to 1/4" higher. Jake confirmed this as well.

I'm going to check mine this weekend when I install it and I'll post up what I find.

Where the pan meets the case is indeed about 1/2" above the full mark on the 60E dipstick. BUT, the 60E dipstick hits the bottom of the stock 80E pan with about 1/2" left to go, stopping it from going any deeper. So I think the full mark on the 60E dipstick is close enough.

I have a 80e dipstick and tube and the full mark was still off.
