Default 4L80E Checkball question

How many checkballs do you guys run when you dual feed the direct clutches?

I've read you can leave out the 3rd gear checkball to improve the shift. I've also read a thing or two about leaving out the reverse checkball.

I have all check ***** and am internally dual fed. I upgraded to the torlon ones.

I'd be interested to hear as well if something else should be done with the check *****.

Here's a 4L80E Hydraulics chart I've been referencing to try and understand this trans a little better.

Better keep studying that hydraulics chart.

There are 3 different checkballs that are related to reverse. One should never be used IMO, and the other two have to be there unless you are making significant valve body changes.

I use 4 checkballs for most of my valve body setups, but they are designed to work that way.
There's much more to it than just leaving out checkballs.

Edited my last post to prevent confusing anybody. The Reverse checkball I was referring to was #9 (circled in red). And I'm struggling to fully understand it's function. It looks like if I left it out, I would get faster direct clutch apply in reverse, but i'm not sure if it would affect 3rd or not due to the dual feed.

Been staring at diagrams, separator plates, and manuals for too long now. The hydraulics to these things are no joke.

Green circle is where i'm plugging the case.

Here is some older discussions on how it has been done in the past with pictures.
