4l80e accleration

Guys. I need your help for a moment. I been confuse a lot. It seem not normal. I want see anyone who have 3209 stall with 5.7 4l80e accleration 0-60 mph video. Because I have small issues. I do have 4L80 LS Pro Series Stage III 258mm 2B and 347 forged motor. Vegenace racing tuning it. Told me my transmission act limp and sometimes not communicate well.

First of all I had trans converastion from 60e to 80e. I use Nelson performance harness plug and play for 80e. I had mad dog transmission built mine. Went bad again. Then second time rebuilt it. But why can't spin tires. I know my stall is built for boost turbo. I'm drive n/a for a while while I'm saving some money for vengeance racing to do my turbo stuff. I thought my 80e can spin tires on n/a??? From stop line take off seem not pull hard. Just feel normal. But my old 60e pull hard and can spin so easy. Anyone can help me out.

Go5.3tt06 07-13-2015 10:19 PM

I tried post video and won't let me

1FastBrick 07-13-2015 10:47 PM

The First gear ratio Is completely different between the 2 transmissions.

1bad2k 07-14-2015 02:39 AM

At 450 rwhp, I could blast the rear tires off the rims almost from a dead stop with the 4l60e. After I swapped in the 4l80e, it doesn't leave near as hard off the line. I am going to swap from 3.42 gears to 4.10s. This would put you a bit closer back to where you were before the 80e swap too.

Go5.3tt06 07-23-2015 06:59 PM

I understand what yall trying to says. I was shock. Confused also. Because it is my first time experience swap 60e to 80e the reason im built for boost TURBO from trick kit I have in garage. But just got new motor built boost from TMS iron forged 347. So I put in 347 10.4:1 CR which is make around 450, 226/232 camshaft, got circle d 258 mm triple multi disk 3200 stall BILLET set good for boost. So, I wanted to run for n/a see how they doing good. After break in 500 miles, tuned by Vegeance Racing. Was going to dyno. But say my 80e have issues. I had mad dog transmission rebuilt twice! Say nothing wrong. Just fixed seal somewhere valvebodies. I was shock that my truck CANT burnout when I footbrake and gas same time. I saw rpm peak 3000 Still cant BURNOUT. I took it back to mad dog transmission and told them about that. THey took test drive. Kept say blame on my stall to much for on motor. Need turn down stall will allow you burnout? Is that true? Also the rearend is high 3.23 and the 80e have long gear. So that mean I need swap to 3.73 to make this better? Look like the stall cant do on n/a have to put turbo and will they able to burnout? I like burnout as always. I don't know when put turbo in. Maybe in few months. Right now my truck I drive daily to work. Gas is awful~ full gas almost 180 miles to under 1/4 It bother me. Any idea make this correct. The tune guy say my motor pretty good and tuned right. But stall suck. Have to turbo make stall do better. Can you help me out with all info. So I can learn something new. I still learning.

GMCtrk 07-23-2015 08:48 PM

n/a is a turd with a 4l80e, also 3.23 gears are crap with that transmission, get lower gears such as 3.73 or 4.10s. Once you get the turbo setup on you should be able to fry all day long. I light them up from a 75 roll on the highway.

^^^ I had 3.42s until I blew the 8.5" up, then swapped in a 9.5 with 3.73s. I had 30.5" tall 20s on it, but dropped back to 29" tall 15" wheels and tires. With the 20s it really needs 4.56s FWIW.

Put a set of 4.10s in it and unload the engine.

Go5.3tt06 07-23-2015 10:19 PM

Interesting. I thought it could be stall problem but gear. Yeah I plan to get 1320 wheel racing 17" for that. 3.73 good idea? How hard to install rearend. Do I have to special tools like shim adjust?

I don't think turbo will like 4.10. I think 3.73 would be better for na and boost?

I keep hearing this turbo theory of long gears and to a point it is true but its all relative. A 4.10 gear will give your roughly the same first gear your truck came with and a little lower 2nd gear.

incorrect most of the turbo trucks on this board are far under geared for the combination they run

ive been 160 mph with a 373 and 28" rubber

think about that and what most trucks use

your truck will benefit from 410s

lxcoupe 07-24-2015 04:30 PM

This sounds like a ridiculous question, but are you sure that torque management was disabled?

When I first got my truck running about the 80e swap (bone stock 5.3L motor, 3.42 gears) it would not spin the tires to save its life. After disabling torque management, I can stall it up and get the tires smoking easily.

Suburbazine 07-24-2015 05:57 PM

I can spin both tires off the line, one tire on the 1-2 shift and again at the 2-3 shift.

If it gets a little cooler outside I can get some video. Right now 101F+ ambient, 120F+ IAT.

My fuel mileage is bad too, 8MPG city and 16MPG highway. Mostly because of high stall and heavy truck.

Mike from Vegeance racing who tuned mine. He did open torque management. Still won't spin. My wheels are 20" with 275/45/20

That is a lot of rubber on the ground to be trying to spin them.

I can spin 255/70R15s on the back of an Express fullsize conversion van. It was a little harder to break loose the 265/50R20s I had on it but I could spin those by powerbraking it too.

I not tuned. Can't pic it. Vegeance racing mike who own efilive tuned mine. I did asked him like fourth times about torque magaement. He unlock it

Yeah, but 255 and 265 are smaller contact patches than 275.

10mm is not much and I have ALOT more weight over the rear-end than a pickup.

Go5.3tt06 08-01-2015 10:17 PM

I spoke to tech that plan to install for me. Some people say I should go 3.90 gear but I think it not good for turbo? I was thinking about go 3.73 but some people say go 3.90 what is your opinon, Im running 275/45/20 but will change to 17" wheel 1320 someday. Also how much good price for package gear/locker auburn or eaton/ install kit?

That is a ~30" tall street tire. Unless you are planning to make more than 700-800 ft/lbs of torque, you would do well with a 4.10 gear ratio. At 75 mph you would only be turning 2,600 rpm. Shifting at 6,500 rpm you will get to 50 mph in 1st gear, 90 mph in 2nd and assuming you lock the converter in 3rd you could still reach 140 mph and be under 6,500 rpm before having to hit overdrive.

A 28" tall tire on those 17s would work well assuming you trap in the 110-130 mph range at the track.

IMHO run more gear even with turbo

Go5.3tt06 08-02-2015 10:01 PM

So you guy think I should go 4.10 what about 3.90? Hp I think will make closer 600-700 hp it's up on my motor/turbo peaking.

What about auburn or eaton you rather to chose ?

ran 410s with a turbo setup with 28s and trapped 130 on 12.5 psi

my combo is saying 373 with a 30" for 170mph trap target........think about that

BlackGMC 08-02-2015 11:31 PM

I ran 3.42, 3.90 and 4.10s with my old turbo. 4.10s were the best and 3.42s were freaking horrible.

1bad2k 08-03-2015 12:02 AM

Shit you guys are making me wanna ditch my 3.42s asap for some 4.10s lol. I'm going to soon, but I'm running a maggie instead.

George C.... 08-03-2015 09:40 AM

most 342s arent making enough power to justify them

GMCtrk 08-03-2015 09:10 PM

Detroit trutrac or Eaton clutch posi both fine. Flip a coin and go with one.

1bad2k 08-03-2015 09:46 PM

Got Detroit tru trac. Order it through summit and they give you $50 rebate. That makes it like $354 shipped. CHEAP.
