Default 4l80e 2x2 convert to 4x4

I have a 2003 Silverado 2500 HD (automatic) with screwed transmission. Transfer case is fine. What modifications do I need if I have access to a rebuilt 4l80e 2x2 tranny? Is it worth it? What's the difference?

I am doing that very thing for my current build.

You need

- New shorter 4x4 output shaft
- transfer case adapter at the end of the trans
- Plug oil hole in rear of case

You'll have to take the trans apart of course.

And by apart, he means completely apart. The output shaft is at the very bottom.

Yeah, totally apart!

If you're going to go through the trans to check its health then its not a big issue. If you just want to drop one in quickly, not worth it.

Yep, like mentioned the trans will have to be completely torn down again to get to the output shaft which needs to be changed, and is at the VERY back. Might just be better to have yours gone through by a reputable shop at that point. Then you'll have a warranty and peace of mind.

Technically he could cut the shaft shorter and just plug the oiling hole, right?

Thx all for the input. I'll just get one that needs no modifications. I Don't have much time till the snow flies and no time for dismantle. Just mechanically inclined enough to do the switch. Appreciate the advice
