Default 4l80 swap: second gear acting funny

I just recently did an 80e swap and the trans is doing some funny things in second gear. It wasnt as noticeable with the stock converter but now with my 3400 converter its more noticeable. It seems almost like its locking the converter to me but im not sure.

Here is a video of part of what its doing.

It also acts up on a 1-2 gear pull(I would call it a shutter once its in second. I will post a video of that if i can ever catch it on camera.

Has anyone seen anything similar to this?

Is the tune commanding it to lock in 2nd? It does appear like it is.

I took the tcc wire out of the tranny connnector today and it acted just like it should (except for the obvious no lockup). So that tells me it is the converter locking at WOT in 2nd. Good thing this stock 5.3 is weak or I may have trashed my lockup clutch. Now to find out if its in the tune or a wiring problem.

Stock 80e tuning locks the converter above 87% throttle in 2nd gear. Is yours segment swapped? Stock converter lockup is hardly noticable, where as a good multi disk converter feels like another gear.

Yes it is segment swapped. It is definitely noticeable with this converter. It feels much better when the converter doesn't lock. I was disappointed in the shift extensions until I figured out the converter was locking.

So are you just running a stock 80E trans tune?

I know the tune isn't stock but not sure what all was changed. I havent broken into tuning yet so i have a good friend doing the tuning for now. Hopefully we will have a chance to check it out soon.

I can't see your setup hurting the converter at all.

I had no idea the stock tune called for the converter to lock at WOT and stay locked through the shifts... kinda crazy.
