ive got a billet slip yoke from a nascar t101 trans for my 4l80 but it doesnt seem to go on all the way. its fully splined and from what i gather it should have a counterbore. i havent pulled the tailshaft to see whats holding me up but how far should the center of the holes be from the rear of the tailshaft when fully inserted

If im understanding your question right then compare it to your 60e yoke where the seal wear line is, that is how much shaft should be inserted.
This was for my Tcase though, are you 4x4?
Edit: I see you said tailshaft so your 2 wheel. Sorry

I didn't really think of looking at where it sits in the 60e. I'll be getting a new drive shaft made, I just want to make sure it's not hanging out to far to start with. The trans is out of an 07 2500 van. I never got the yoke with it and the ds was junk so I doubt they still have it

That should have come with a slip style yoke to begin with. The 60e yoke has roughly around 5" of shaft that slides into the tailshaft. My 80e came out of a 2000 c2500. Came with a bolt on style yoke that i made into a slip yoke it only has about 3.5" of shaft that slides into the tailshaft. Mine has a 4 inch drop with shackles and hangers. It hangs out of the seal about 3/4-1 inch and only slides in about 1/4" when suspension is fully extended. It slides out about the same fully compressed.
