4l80 no move

Okay drove the truck ( 02 SWB 5.3 122 Maggie) about 200 miles yesterday and all was good got off the interstate and it made a funny sift from 1-2 then back to 1. then it was like it was out of gear. Fluid was good. I could turn the truck off let it set. Start it back up put it in gear and it would go until it went from 1st to 2ed and then like it was in neutral. Anyone got a clue. I have had it in the truck for 3 years and no issues at all until yesterday.

It's at the Builder now. It's been in the truck for 3years so if it's dead it's on me. He is hoping it's the servo's I'll know by the end of the week. If I do have to build a new trans what is the best stall to go with. Stock 5.3 122 Maggie making 10lbs 343 gears. Pull an inclose 30' with a 3800 pound car inside. THANKS ALL

What did it end up being?
My guess would be the roller clutch in the overdrive. Both pre and post-2001 designs fail, especially with hard shifts or jolts in input torque. If that's the case you may get movement in manual first or second because the overrun clutch pack will hold some torque around the roller clutch. Won't hold against power though, just enough to move the truck. If the roller clutch is what failed you can replace it easily. The assembly is readily available and is just behind the pump with the input shaft attached. The busted pieces of rollers and the cage usually even stay put. You don't even have to remove the 4th clutch housing or therefore the bolt under the valve body holding it in.
Any other cause of all loss of movement is likely to be related to loss of hydraulic pressure (pump failure, valve body gasket blowout, etc.), or complete mechanical failure of the geartrain.
