4L65e story
#1
A couple years ago I did a buddys 2002 denali H&C,LTs UPD,catback, yank 2600 transgoHD,vette servo.(est. ET 14.2)That package had been flawless for a lot of miles,no complaints. So the other day we tossed on a radix and the trans lived for less than a week.I ordered a 05 take-out 4L65E w/5mi.$1K.While waiting for the new trans I pulled out the old one ,torn it down, smoke band. Then I decided I will fix this trans and make it an guinny pig. While searching these LS1 forums I came accros a member non sponser guy named Dana of protrans in cali. All I can say was the guy was more than willing to help and to share info,he told me exactly how to set it up,i followed his advise except I went .135 not .155 on the 2-3 feed.Installed a few high rev parts and set clearences.(spent $117 in parts)This thing now works awesome,it doesnt shift as hard but the up and down shifts are as crisp and clean as anyone can imagine. It feels like it can handle the power. This trans will get beat on to find the limit. The guy has no problem sharing what he feels is his best (rare bird)he told me if I bought parts from him ok if not ok too.I would have but I need parts the next day which I buy direct from distributor.I cant believe the personality change of this trans. Thanks Dana.I wont post his website but here is his member ID https://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?userid=22201

I, too, can vouch for the fact that Dana is willing to help out and go the extra 10 miles to do so. My local tranny tech spent 90 minutes on the phone with Dana (on Dana's dime no less) and the two of them discussed every minor detail on what needed to happen on my 3rd attempt at a rebuild. I paid for the first one, the last two were covered by the tranny shop. I now have a 4L65E that shifts EXACTLY like it should. Same tech, but with the correct knowledge from Dana. All this assistance came from Dana before I spent any money with him. He also steered me in selecting the correct 3000 converter for my needs/wants. It is rare to find someone who WANTS to help just for the sake of helping. Granted, Dana did end up with (some of) my money, but I felt it was the right thing to do - he also had everything I needed available for shipping. Alll in all, I couldn't recommend anyone more highly.
