4l60E TC question

Default 4l60E TC question

my 4l60e blew out 2nd, od, and rev, so i went and got a tranny, question is is there a shimming space between the tc and flywheel? i was told there was, but i was just checkin

When you install the converter, you should hear 2 clics and a final "thunk". At least that's what mine did "click", "click", "thunk", and it should be fully seated in the front pump. When you install the trans, when the bellhousing bolts are in, the converter should have should have somewhere around 3/16-1/4" of space. DO NOT SHIM this distance, move the converter out to mate to the flexplate bolt flanges. This gets the converter off the pump a bit so you don't burn it up.

Just beware, some have had a significantly larger space between the flywheel and the TC. I agree with the 3/16-1/4 but I have heard some with close to 1/2 inch. I believe a proper built of the trans sets this "space" If too large a gap, it can trash the pump quickly. I did not shim mine but some other have. A search might pull up some old posts.
