4l60e rebuild difficulty?
#11
the 4l60 is almost identical to the 700. youll notice the aluminum V/B. if i were you replace the pump, case and tailshaft bushings, get the beast reaction shell, replace the sprags, get the kevlar 2-5/8 2-4 band, vette servo, .500 boost valve, unbreakable ring kit, torrington bearing kit, and a master overhaul kit. if you have done the 700 this will be a piece of cake. oh yeah they offer a pump vane kit. i use transmissionpartsusa.com but im sure there are other places
On a side note - I was thinking of getting an extra 4L60E that I rebuild, just incase then I would have my stock one to fall back on, I found one from a guy some what local that is asking $80 to get them out of his storage.
He says this about the transmission - "had good reverse but when put in D would not move unless you put in 1st and then shift up as you drive and then when you get to drive all is fine even when you come to a stop and start moving then it shifts fine, no slipping ever, good shift points and all until you put in neutral or reverse"
What would cause the above, a sensor? I am thinking its a good core to rebuild and put the upgraded parts in, and have my stock one as a backup.

Ordered a bunch of parts lastnight -
--rebuild kit that includes High Energy Alto Friction Plates, Steel Plates, Sealing Rings, Metal Clad Seals, Gaskets, Orings, Filter, Kevlar Band, Front Pump Bushing and Extention Housing Bushing.
--Aluminum accumulators
--Thrust Bearing Kit
--Beast Sunshell
--Transgo Valve Body Plate
I also have a TB torque converter from a 4.2 to put in. I was going to sell it, but since rebuilding the transmission figured I would put it in. I have the vette servo installed already, and have the .500 boost valve on the shelf.
Parts still need to order (ran out of money this week lol)
--Unbreakable Pump Ring Kit
--5 Pinion planet
Am I missing anything?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the cause of this problem is ?

Don't waste your money on 5 pinion plantaries. If you won't listen to me, make sure you get factory GM 5 pinion planetaries. The cheap after market chinese 5 pinion planetaries are weaker than the factory 4 pinion.
Make sure you get the borg warner 29 element dual cage sprag. I never liked the kevlar band. Install a new reverse input drum machined for a carbon wideband.
