Default 4l60E question

I am planning on starting to mod my stock truck. It has close to 70k on it. I want to start in the drive train and go from there. My question is this. I'm planning on running a 3k stall(yank), now should I put it in my stock tranny (which works fine at the moment)and get a deep pan and a cooler. Or should I just save up for a FLT tranny? I'm running a stock 4.8 which will soon have a cam and the usual bolt-ons. I know the pan and the cooler will be the cheaper route but I keep hearing about everyone blowing up their tranny's. Also does custom tuning shorten tranny life(I'd like to go wheatley or nelson)? Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Marty

Go with the FLT if you can swing the $ you'll end up saving in the end

I think it is more the way we drive our trucks than anything else that claims the transmissions.

Either wheatley or nelson would be a good choice especially if they are local to you. I have customers using both with great success. I feel that a big cooler is a must in any application to keep trans temps down. As for a deep pan your truck should already have a factory deep pan on it. Some guy's like to get even bigger ones. Just make sure that it will clear your cross member and the exhaust. As for buying a trans now that is up to you. If this is not your DD then I would say drive it till it brakes and then call us to make an order. Keep in mind we are a busy shop if this is your DD. So ordering in advance will cut down on the down time. Vince
