Default 4L60E Output Shaft Play

I pulled out my driveshaft today and decided to see how much play the output shaft of my stock 4L60E had. I was shocked, I could move the end of the output shaft approximately 1/4" up and down or side to side. This trans has absolutely no problems otherwise, no odd vibrations, no excess wear on the slip yoke.

This can't be normal, right? If not, any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Yeah I guess thats pretty normal in a stock build or one that has endplay in the rear half of the unit. I normally tighten that up some when I build performance units. Keep in mind that the shaft where you are checking it is supported at the extension housing bushing and the yoke. In front of all of that there are other bushings that support the output shaft inside the trans.
