Default 4L60E lost OD and reverse

What are the usual culprits? Heard a loud bang on the 1-2 shift, and it was violent. Part throttle, pulling out into traffic. I have 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Doesn't run hot - per trans temp gauge. Has a rattling noise at idle, and when I pull away from a stop. Converter doesn't seem like it is locking up either.

Truck has around 255K miles, has been a work truck most of its life judging by a few subtle clues. Engine and transmission do not appear to have ever been rebuilt.

Αre you sure you have 2nd gear? You might have broke the sunshell.

It could have been skipping 2nd gear, maybe I didn't notice because of my gearing.

Got word yesterday, it stripped the teeth off of the sun shell.

Typical... Time for a beast!!! While back a friend of mine had the same thing happen, i even rode in the truck a few times after words and it seemed the only thing he had lost was reverse.... I swear it has to do with whether it breaks or strips....
