So... After fighting valve locks, i get fed up walk away from the truck for a minute and am standing by where all my stuff is from where i built the transmissions and im staring at my tub of transgel.... Thought goes through my head, so what if i put a dab of that on the lock and then put it on the valve stem.... It will stay there... why did i not figure this out 6 springs ago!!!!
try a sharp pick. I wouldn't drill it out if you can help it. Weld a nut to it and spin it out if you can. I get broken Manifold bolts broke off a 1/4 inch inside the cylinder heads using a mig welder and a pile of nuts.
It was late and that breaking took every bit of wind i had out of my sails (so to speak)... Hopefully it wont come to drilling it out, but i plan to start with a drill bit much smaller than the hole and an extractor.. If the pick doesnt work anyway, go figure an old stud holds up through 7 of the valve sorings so far... The snap-on tools lasts 3, at least i can warranty it out tomorrow when the snap on guy shows up. I really need a stud with 8x1.25 thread all the way up, about 1/2" or so longer than what i have now
Gezz, I don't log in for 1 day and the shenanigans begin...
I like to use the welding Idea too, Only issue is the engine is open and exposed. The welding slag from the arc will bead up and run down into the engine.
If you have to do it, wrap everything including the valve stem with a clean leather welding blanket. The use a nut and weld through the center of it...
I do the same for exhaust bolts. It's the best way to extract them.
