4.3 Work Truck 3.42 to 3.73
I read through the threads people have posted about go from 3.42 to 3.73 and they mainly consisted of 5.3l and bigger engine setups.
My work truck/dd is in need of a gear and I have a 3.73 on the shelf. Before I go set this up, I USE this truck as a truck. If I need to move something this truck gets hooked to it and moves it, car, fork lift, etc.(with in reason).
Will this 3.73 help out much with the hauling or not even be noticeable? The pos is on the road daily and I really do not want to go with 4.10's. So the question is go back with 3.42 or use the 3.73 gear.
2wd, rclb, 4.3, 4l60e, 251k miles...

If you are going through the trouble of regearing, most will tell you to upgrade one step further and jump into 4.10, especially with the 4.3L.
BUT, if you got the 3.73 gearset just sitting there, it will definitely help out. I used to race my 98 K1500 RCLB 4.3/4L60E/3.73 gears against an identical C1500 w/3.42 gears and I would have an entire truck length on him by 40MPH every time. Even with the added wait of 4WD, the 3.73 gears made up for it in all aspects...other than maximum fuel efficiency, but I probably had him beat in city efficiency though.

Thank you for the reply. I may have my hands on a ff 14bolt 4.10 and locker. I know it is over kill for the 4.3... however, it is cheap and I have wheels for it. Otherwise I will be setting up the 3.73 in the 10bolt.
