Default 3.42s to 3.73s???

Is it worth the money to do this mod. I'm sure I can pick up some cheap 3.73s and I know a guy who can do the swap pretty cheap. Are there really any gains? Some people say you can't tell a difference but some some say you can. I'm running 275/45/20 tires and will be getting a TB stall once the tranny breaks.

i'd say some 4.10's but it all depends on what you use your truck for. like city/hwy driving, towing, or set up for the track. i went from 3.42's to 4.10's with an eaton and i love them. i do a lot of interstate driving also and my rpms at 70 increased around 350 rpms. i'm sure some other guys on here can help you decide...

I think it's a good swap, I've had a truck with 3.73 and the one I have now is 3.42 and I really feel a big difference, but it just depends in where do you drive, i think 3.73 is a good all around gear. If you're going to drag race it all the time, 4.10 or 3.90 is your best bet, if you drive on highway a lot, then the stock or 3.73 is the best thing to do.

go straight to the 4.10's. I did this on my old tahoe and was very pleased with the results.

I would say to go with the 4.10s, it would probably cost a lot for the install and you wouldn't notice too much of a difference with 3.73s. If you can get it done cheap then yeah, but otherwise I would do 4.10s.

in my opinion the happy medium is the best, which is 3.73s. i had 4.10s on my old truck and it was kewl when i first got em, but then i just wish i had the 3.73s back

I mostly drive on 55mph highways. Not much interstate stuff. There are no big tracks around here so i don't race much. I just want a little more low end but i dont want my gas mileage to suffer.

In that case, 3.73s would help much more than the 4.10s. The mileage does suffer more with the 4.10s and high end power is much lower.

I just swtiched from 3.42's to 3.73's and i like the results. It has better take off and seems to have more low end. And now i can powerbreak my tires and with the 3.42's i couldn't.

I think I have decided to try the 3.73s out. I have heard they are good with a TB stall. BTW about when do the stock 4L60e transmissions go out. I have 83,000 on my truck now.
