Default 3:23 Upgrade costs?

Well I pulled the travel trailer for the first time this weekend and the 3:23 in my truck couldn't pull a sick ***** out of bed! That gear ain't worth ! So my question is does GM offer any other rearend other than a 3:42 or 3:73? anything in between? I would like to keep somewhat decent gas mileage..and I know with a 3:73 it won't happen...What mileage are you guys getting with a 3:42 or 3:73? and does anyone have any idea what a dealership would charge for one of the above rearends and how much for install.?(I would like to keep it under warranty). Thats why I ask about a dealership....Thanks guys and sorry for so many ?'s! That 3:23 just makes me wanna

you might see 2mpg different on the inerstate wtih 3.42's to 4.10's. Atleast thats all I saw. In town actually a little better.

3.73's you wont loose much. What you MGIHT loose on the highway you will make that small 5 miles a tank around town.

No, mine has a 3:23...and its worthless for pulling...28ft travel trailer + 15mph headwind + 3:23 gears = 55mph and to the floor! Anybody know of the cost for gears and install from a dealership?? or where I can get some gears online? I would like to have this done tomorrow!

Just need to see if anybody knows any prices of gears and install from a dealer so I have something to work off tomorrow when I start calling around for'em? Or possibly where I can find them online for cheap and have the dealer install them...?

If you do a search you will find alot of info on this as I have posted similar topics recently. You need to go w/ at least a 3.73 to notice any improvement. You will want to stick with OEM GM (AAM) gears when you do the swap.

Dealership prices for the swap would be outrageous especially including parts. Even if you had them do the install it woulkd still void your factory warranty since it is not original equipment on your truck. Your better off buying a new set of AAM 3.73's and having a reputable shop in town install them The install is gonna run anywhere from $250-400 depending on who does it in town and the gear set will run you approx $230 from Randy's Ring and Pinion. The only bad part about OEM gears is that they are expensive you can search all day long and will not find them for under $200 unless from an individual seller or used set.

I have a new OEM 3.73 set Im selling right know, however the sale is pending. If it falls thru I will let you know if your interested.

What is all involved in swapping the gears yourself? What all has to be done? pulled? can use your original races, bearings, and so forth??

Found a set on a non-sponsor site - 3:73 AAM - $235.88, good price? and what is this "master install kit" - comes with MASTER INSTALL KIT - Contains all necessary components to install a ring and pinion and/or differential case: bearings, races, seals, adjusting hardware, pinion nut, locking and pattern checking compounds - GM CORP 9.5 inch.- 9.5 inch is the right factory rearend? correct? Is all that worth the $150 they want for it?
