AFAIK the only gears available now are 3.42's and 4.10's. Most of the new stuff seems to come with 3.42's unless you special order the 4.10's.

Huh, is that the SUV's too, or just the pickups?

There are a handful of 05's (Z71 CC trucks) that have 3.73 gears. I think it was a mid-year option because a bunch of people probably bitched about it.
I have seen one '06 GMC down the street that also has 3.73 on the window sticker (Z71 CC).

Don't know if 3.73 is available on the '06 2wd's...haven't looked at any.

i guess i'll have to check the computer myself. i work for a chevy dealer and can get this info easily. as for the 3.73's for 05' i highly doubt that bitching got anywhere. gm does what they want when they want. i'd like to see an 05' z71 with the 3.73's stock...

For all-out performance nothing beats 4.10's, my experience tells me that, but I want my 3.73's back, as they were a better all-around gear for street and freeway driving. However, I don't see how 3.42's would be preferred, unless: (1) No towing was ever done, (2) All time was spent on the freeway, and (3) The speed limit was 80 MPH.
