My 4l60e 1st gear went noisy and I took it to Trans Plus to find it was unlikely due to my Radix. After going into 2nd she was fine (or so it seemed).
There is a failing thrust bearing back there in the planetary area he has seen several stock trucks.
I was to nurse it home and bring it back Monday to get her built up. I made it to my driveway where she blew. Suddenly a high pitched siren gear whine and clack clack and rattling came out and no reverse or park. The tow truck took her back.
After the interview I'm looking forward to the new build up using some of the 4l65e configurations and the latest and greatest performance parts and setup. It will be a configuration similar power wise to an FLT 4L60E Street Strip Level 4 but in his personal favorite flavors.
This guy makes lots of folks happy in the Cartersville GA area.

Thanks, I'll report back on how it goes. I'm curious as to the shifting habits.
I called Magnuson asking about their original tune and how it would be effected by a beefier transmission. They claim if the builder does the normal and sets it up for stock pressures it will be fine, at worst case it may shift too hard to which programing would solve.
The Trans builder has a tuner on standby close by.

Left it in San Jon and on the way back I was able to drive it in 3rd gear to Elk City 234 miles closer to home. Had to tow it from there.
Planetary took out the sunshell, scared up the pump and burned up the clutches.

These threads always make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing I've got the piece of mind of a 4L80E now. I know it can still fail but not as dramatically as a 4L60E can. Good luck with it though. Hopefully you don't have an issues with the rebuilt 60E.
