1997 Z71 with a 700r4?
#1
Howdy! My buddy swears up and down that his 1997 Z71 had a 700r4 in it from the factory cause thats what his mechanic told him. I need some firm answers if possible. What transmissions did GM have available for trucks in the mid 90's? When did the 4L60 & 4L80 come into usage? sorry for being a dumbass but gotta have the experts tell me whats up. Thanks!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo-Hydramatic :
The 700 was renamed the 4L60, when the electronic version, 4L60-E, was phased in (1993 for GM trucks, vans, and SUVs, and 1994 for RWD passenger cars). Around 1996, a bolt-on bellhousing was phased in (along with a six-bolt tailhousing) when the transmission was bolted behind an inline four cylinder or the Vortec engine family.
