1997 K2500 Straight Axle Swap
#1
Hello,
I am trying to find the length of the 4x4 front drive shaft of 1973-1976 K20 which had a dana 44.
I put a Dana 44 under my 97 4x4 with 6.5TD and trying to see if the older truck shaft is long enough?
Thanks for any input or advice.

Jesus I didn't think there were any of those crappy 6.5 turds still around. How many pumps have you had on it. A running 6.5 is like trying to find a virgin in a whorehouse.
Length of a 70's truck is irrelevant complete different Tcase suspension setup etc . Easiest is to use your stock shaft as a guide and then add inches as necessary to land it at then front diff. Then jack the front up to full droop and add the amount the front diff drops to the spline length you want to have a minimum of 2"s of spline engagement since your new driveshaft will need to be a slip yoke.
If your truck has the manual shift BW case or the electric shift NP case also changes the style of connection at the T case so be sure to tell whoever is building your drive shaft what case you have. Hopefully I don't catch flack. I use tom woods driveshaft for all my custom 4x4 stuff I need built you can google search for them. You can also call and talk with someone and they will walk you through the exact measurements you need to take and help assemble the correct shaft the first time.
