10.5" 14 bolt...need a new posi
#1
Guys... My 96 dually needs a new posi since the old one has crapped out on me (long boring story) so Im looking for feed back on whats good stuff and what I should avoid.
This truck is my driver/tow vehicle and is 2wd so a brutal locker/spool isnt needed but on the other hand I dont want to get stuck in wet grass either. The factory posi fulfilled my needs fine right up until the time it decided to eat itself (8+hrs from home I might add
) so if a stocker can be bought for a decent price then a stocker is fine with me or if there are better aftermarket units for similar money then those are fine too.
Feed back from other posi ppl appreciated
BTW, Im not interested in an air locker...the truck has enough do dads installed as it is and I dont need anything else that can break that I cant buy parts for over the counter which would leave me stranded several miles from home.....again.

detroit locker and you will never mess iwth again, I have an eaton posi and it works well till one tire gets off the gorund otherwise two nice black marks, if I had it to do over again I would get a detroit locker or their trutrac, I have riden in a few trutrac equipped trucks and they were seamless and seem to be holding up well and no cluthces to wear out

I went with a detroit locker. If I did it again I'd go with an Eaton. Detroit locker is not the best rear diff for slow turn manuveurs, and you have to be very ginger in the rain, but it does provide the ultimate dry grip. The Eaton seems like a better all around diff.

I did a DL as well. Eaton makes some nice LSDs that have spring adjustible mechanics, but IMO they are less reliable in the long run. Either one is probably good for what you want, I wouldn't reinstall a stocker -- they are too unpredictable in terms of longevity imo.

I have an Eaton Posi in the 10.5" 14-bolt in the Tahoe. It's got 4.56 gears on it and withstands the punishment of a 3500RPM converter behind 650ft/lbs of torque to 305 Nittos that can be spun to the point of drifting corners in a 6000-pound SUV. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for.
