Default 06 Sierra 4.8 3.23 Rear Upgrade

Hello forum,
I am by nature a import guy but I just got my first GM truck. I purchased it yesterday knowing it had a bad rear end. After doing a little research on replacing my rear end I have found that no has a 3.23 rear end. I have a 2006 Sierra crew cab with a 4.8 engine that has a lifter tick with 3.23 gears. My question is this. Can I go with 3.73 gears for now as Im planning on going 5.3 or 6.0 later. Please advise.

You can.

Depending on miles, it may be beneficial to overhaul the rear end.

Either way, you're going to need a means to fix the speedo, usually a tune.

Thanks madmann26, I have never done an overhaul and I have called various transmission shops and all have said they are not interested in the job. I am fearful of purchasing a used rear end because you do not know what you are getting.

are you 2wd or 4wd, and is it a stick or auto?
if you're looking for gas mileage, a 3.42 ain't a terrible replacement in a 2wd regular cab.
if you've got a back seat, i'd personally recommend 4.11s for 2wd or 4x4 with either trans. that little 4.8 will thank you.

for reference, i put 4.30s in my RCSB 4x4 with 33s and a 5-speed

4.11 for a 4.8 would work really good. If youre running a tire bigger than 33 consider 4.56
