I have a trans that is trashed. It has no reverse(grinding,whining), part will not engage. Has 1st and 3rd. Anyways I am told from the salvage yards that it must be a 2001 to replace it. Any ideas why? I have found one from a 99 s-10 and a 2002 1500 truck. Just curious as why these wouldn't work if I changed bell housings and convertors.

 

The problem with your trans is a stripped out sun shell. The trans from the 2002 will work just fine and bolt right in. HTH Vince
