Default Walbro wiring question?

Hey guys, I got a walbro gss 342 fuel pump for my 2001 silverado 2500 hd. I've been having some trouble getting it wired correctly. The pump came with a pig tail with a red and black wire coming from it. on the fuel pump assembly in the inside of the tank, there was a wiring harness with 4 wires coming out of it. There were 2 purple wires that went to the float and then a black and a grey wire. I took the black wires and spliced them together and then took the red and gray wires and spiced them together. Hooked everything back up and there was no power to the pump. So i unspliced everything and took the new pump and harness and hooked it up to the battery for a second and it kicked on, so obviously the fuel pump is good, then took a volt meter and got power all the way to the black and gray wires that i spiced to the new pump and that's where we lost power, I've tried looking it up and can't seem to find any information on it, if anyone has some advice i would really appreciate it, Thank you.

Pull the relay and see if there is power going to and from it.

And just so you know, it will only power on for a few seconds if the truck is not running.
