Return. I ran twin 255's on a Returnless setup with allot of meth and still waived the white flag. Building return system now. Your 450 will do allot more with a return setup and a boost references FPR.

Would not having a return style fuel system cause my first fuel pump to fry it's wires?

No. What wires fried? Are you running on stock wiring? I am running a stand alone harness.

Stock wiring. Was told the wires in the gas tank that go to the pump were fried.

Well I know a 450 pulls more amps, but the 04 up tank connector is also the upgraded one. Not sure what gauge the factory intank wiring is. I have a couple buckets in my garage, I'll have to look.

never run stock wires with a 450. They can pull a ton of amps, well over 20 at full tilt.

12-14 gauge would work good assuming 10" length. Technically 16 would work but I would error on the side of caution. Factory 04' up tank connector (280 series I think) is rated at 30amp.
