Default Vacuum line connected? Or not? Aftermarket FPR

I'm starting to think I messed up. Truck runs fine, but might not be set up correctly.

2001 Silverado, factory V8 truck. Quantum 340lph pump, factory lines, Evil Energy adjustable fuel pressure regulator, TBSS intake manifold with stock fuel rails.

Previously I had been running it with a Corvette fuel filter between the TBSS rails and my factory lines to retain the return system.

I'm seeing from multiple sources that I should have left the nipple on the regulator open?

Naturally aspirated, right? I was told by a few people that it only needed a vacuum reference if it was turbo/or supercharged. And the tune was done with the Corvette regulator, no vacuum reference. Which is why I am questioning it. Cold start, it stinks like fuel. Never did this bad before.

I am NA and haven't had a vacuum line connected to my FPR for probably 10 years now.

I'm NA.

Whats your fuel pressure? Is it holding steady? Any drop at high RPM?

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, i just don't know why you think there is a problem?

That tidbit of information should have been the first line in your first post, not an aside some time later.
I think you answered your own question with this statement.

Yup, it has been in the back of my mind. I just needed someone who knew better than me to confirm it. Thank you.
