I just put a 416 with a 2.9L Whipple in my 2003 3/4 ton Suburban. Pulled the pump today to swap in a Walbro 400 but have a dilemma. The stock pump has dual pickups. One goes to a sock that picks up fuel inside the bucket. The second pickup has a grommet that fits in a port at the bottom of the bucket which has an external sock that pulls fuel directly from the tank.
I need ideas on how to deal with this since I can't seem to find another Walbro with dual pickups. Actually, this is the first OEM pump I have seen that didn't have a single pickup. Since I 4x4 frequently on inclines, I need to keep a functioning bucket so I don't run dry. A bolt-on sump really won't work well because of ground clearance issues. Hopefully some of you pros will suggest a simple fix.
Here is the OEM pump and bucket:

Try contacting Racetronics and see if they can find a pump that will work based of your vin number.
Delphi List 4 different pumps available for an 03 2500 Suburban.
Based on what you said, I think you might need the first one listed.
FG0275-Actual OE Part, Contains Internal Pump Strainer, Primary Fuel Tank
FG0351-Actual OE Part, w/o Robust Fuel System Auxiliary Tank California
FG0352-Actual OE Part, w/o Robust Fuel System Auxiliary Tank Exc California
FG0465-Actual OE Part, w/Robust Fuel System Auxiliary Tank

I didn't know know Lonnies sponsor's tech as well. I have heard alot of good things about Lonnies Performance when it comes to fuel system stuff.

"These is nothing PnP high-performance for this module. You will have to modify the bucket and add a return line with front-mounted regulator if you want to run the 400LPH F90000267 pump."
Not really sure how to interpret this. I already have a return type system. I would still need a way of pulling from the main tank to feed the pump otherwise the return will not fill the bucket. ???
I sent them an e-mail also. Just waiting to hear back.

My pump was the same when I converted to a 340. I already have a return-style setup but had the double filters like you do. I ended up just leaving the bucket filter as-is, and put a new pump filter on along with the new pump. I forgot to order a filter with the pump, but a DSM (mid 90s Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser) pump strainer fits the 340 pump (also Walbro 255 pumps, not sure about the 400). There is a thin frame in the filter but it is plastic so you can flex it where it will fit in the bucket.
The only problem I have had with mine is that is doesn't sit all the way in the bottom of the bucket, I think the filter is pushing it away from the bottom a bit. Because of that, when my gauge shows 1/4 it is really about to run out. When I fill up it is only around 17 gallons instead of 22 before.
If you can find a filter that fits the new pump and sits at an angle like the stock one does I think you would not have that issue.

I have now given this a lot of thought. Basically, I am sick and tired of these fuel pump buckets. Yeah, they are great for stock setups but a real pain if your trying to get enough pump to keep the engine happy with go juice. The older small diameter buckets like mine are especially bad.
The plan now (items have been ordered) is to replace the internal OEM pump with a low pressure lift pump. I settled on a Walbro 041 pump with 12 psi of pressure. This will feed a fuel collector tank that will house two Walbro 400 lph pumps inside. One pump will be on a Hobbs switch. The tank will be mounted where the optional OEM auxiliary battery would normally go.
It will look similar to this:

But I am going with this SARD tank:

So my system should look something like this:
