Default Fuel Tank Venting

So I put in a lot of new stuff in my truck. 383 motor with accompanying mods, new trans, fresh rear end guts, gears and axles, Walbro drop in fuel pump, new fuel lines, FPR and with the new motor came an Edlebrock Vic Jr with a 92mm FBW TB.

The truck does not have EVAP any longer but I am running a MAF for tuning. Also drilled a hole in the back of the elbow for the MAP sensor.

On the gas tank I ran the supply and return lines properly but I capped off the line (the one in the center of the pump) for the EVAP. Which in turn meant I capped off the vent line towards the back of the tank.

The gas tank now seems to be venting (gas smell) as the truck warms up and (I assume) also from sitting in the hot Texas sun.

Can I simply run a hose from that rear hole/vent/fitting to a high place and get ventilation? Assuming that's why the tank is venting & hissing. If you take the gas cap off it hisses and blows as you slowly unscrew the cap.

Thanks

Chad

Yea you need to vent the tank somehow. Without an EVAP type system you will have a gas smell if it sits for a while.

Ok, I will put a hose on that fitting towards the back of the tank and run it to a high point somewhere on the bed. Should I put one of those small K&N filters on it or ya recon it would be ok just open?

Thanks man!

If you drive in dirty environments I would put a filter on it.

That's actually a pretty good idea, save me from buying a filter! The truck is street driven only but Texas summers get dry and dusty, a filter wouldn't hurt that's for sure!

Put a loop at the highest point, a filter or a check valve

Should I tie in the center connection from the fuel pump? Right now that is capped, should I leave it capped or tie it into that vent in the back where the looped line and filter is?

Did you ever end up tying the center connection from the sender to the vent line? Did this work for you? Are the vapors strong or not too bad? Thanks.
