Default Why does this vac/boost gauge do this?

It's an Auto Meter Sport Comp II that uses a MAP sensor. The line is hooked into the intake just behind the throttle body. The wiring harness is a plug-n-play deal so there's no wiring to screw up.

At idle it shows vacuum just like it should but if you blip the throttle it'll jump up to 5psi instantly. It's a centrifugal blower so there's no way it's making 5psi just off idle. I plumbed it to the brake booster hose with no change.

I ran a plain boost gauge to a port off the intake plumbing and it reads normally....no boost showing with a blip of the throttle.

I've never run a vac/boost gauge before...is this normal or is it screwed up?

I found it. I had it wired to a switched connection like I always do....apparently it needs a connection that doesn't lose power during cranking. 'm on the hunt for that connection now.
