Should be PHAT nasty loud! hehe
i stand corected. that is the exact same sound i hear on my truck and most turbo cars i have seen but your right, the livernois kit doesn't even have a bov.

i thought it was just the bov fluttering open and closed. if i get that noise even with a bov does that mean the bov is too small or just not adjusted right? how do you size a bov?

According to my buddy with a Turbo V6 Eclipse the spring in the BOV has a lot to do with it and its very hard to get it perfect. I guess just have a BOV is better then none even if it only gets rid of 80% of the surge... Kind of like how a half full glass of beer is better then an empty one! LoL

P.S. Just for the reccord I was not trying to correct anybody just put in my .02. I am still learning every day about these Turbo thingys... LoL

guess i am used to other boards where you get yer azz chewed for stating an opinion. LoL

When i started my Turbo project last year i did not know much at all, I installed everything myself on a truck it was not design for, it took six weekends but i got it done. Then i turned around and swaped a transmission and learned some more... All i know is I am ready to ditch my career in Computer Tech support to becaome a total gear head in a shop! I am starting my Welding class in August, oh yeah!

hehe sorry, back to topic... LoL

Parish, the BOV should be set so it just bearly closes with idle vac on it. Then when you step on the gas and the vac goes away, it will stay shut. Mine is a cheap Bosch bypass off a Volvo, and is not adjustable and is open at idle, so I have to have a filter on it, so dirt doesnt get sucked in, but when the vac drops off, it closes and the boost pressure holds it closed until you let off it and the vac sucks it open and it go's pusssshhhhh. If it go's woop, woop, then its too tight and needs to be loosened so it go's pusssshhhhh. HTH,

You learn something new everyday. Looks like I'll be adjusting mine soon.

The funny thing is: No where in TiAL's instructions does it say how to or that you even need to adjust the damned thing.

Most aftermarket BOV have spring tension adjustment. Yes if have it adjusted to tight(too much spring tension) it causes the valve to slam open and shut very rapidly giving you a veryodd sound and it is not good for the valve or the turbo as it doesn't release the boost properly and causes compresser surge. The amount of boost that you run also makes a difference in how much tension is needed on the spring. The lower the boost, the lower the tension needed. This can be a pain in the *** if you run different boost levels. I found the easiest way to adjust was to start on the weak side and adjust till the boost gauge either doesn't drop off as soon as you let off the trhottle or it makes the ripple sound and back it off just a bit. This is very important adjustment especially if you are running high boost levels and expensive turbo's. If not properly adjusted it can blow your motor very quickly. The turbo on my Talon was $1700 and I really don't want to replace it anytime soon. I am running 25 psi on pump gas and it sounds like the biggest bull in the world is snorting at you when the bov opens between shifts. Note to self...If you vent it into the intake plumbing between the maf and the turbo make the tubing out of metal as it makes it sound even deeper and meaner than just venting it into the atmosphere. Just my .02 cents on it.

What do you mean a four tire burnout in a fourbanger isn't natural? It is with 450hp from 25 psi and 10,000 rpm racing cams.

Don't know about the tial valve but I have a Greddy Type R on the talon and the adjustment is in the center on the top and it has a set screw with lock nut the you turn to adjust and I also have an HKS Racing BOV that is huge and it uses the same adjustment style. And for the guys running twins or really big frigging turbos you should run twin bov because one great big one usually can't flow enough to vent the volume of air needed to release the psi and it is not a good thing either.
