Default What size turbo for rear mount?

5.3L longtubes 210/218 116lsa .551 .551 + 1.8 rockers .584 .584

I'm going to build my own turbo kit seeing as I have a pipe bender and can weld tubes like a champ haha

I want 4-5psi keeping stock heads and bottom end. I would be more than happy with 100 rwhp/tq

I plan on having the truck dyno tuned after install

turbo?

My buddy is running a Magnum 76mm Q trim on his 5.3 Rear mount with a baby cam. 14psi and it ran a mid-high 11.

I really liked my GT67 at 8-9 lbs. but I bet a little 60 would be sufficient for 5lbs. Experts will chime in.

I ran the Garrett 60mm that come with the STS kit and it was ok. 6psi should be 125 extra RWHP.. roughly.

I want a turbo that will spool rapidly with the stock stall

what about something smaller than the GT60?

Seeing as it is rear mount and only 5ish psi could I get by without an inter cooler for a while?

I'd say something in the 60-70 range if you're only looking for +100hp.

60mm would the the smallest id run.. not gonna be able to spin it high either.. i think i was shifting at the 5500rpm range.

And no intercooler can be done,, but not suggested.

i rode around for two days with no intercooler. saw 165-175 and said no more.. went and redid the piping and put the W/A ic on..
Your gonna loose what little power you pickup with the high IATs.

Even a small air to air intercooler will be better then nothing.

As far as turbo size, I would look for something in the 62-67mm range. That way at the low boost you plan on running, you will be working in the efficiency range of the turbo. Keep the exhaust A/R around .86-.96 so that it will spool decently and not completely choke out up top.

Also, keep the exhaust pipe from the headers to the turbo around 2.5" so that you keep the exhaust velocity up to help with spool times as well. And maybe consider wrapping the headers to help keep the heat in as well.

I'm guessing by your screen name that you have a 2000 year truck? If so then I wouldnt even try to use the stock pump/injectors. I would look in to a Walbro 255 intank fuel pump and some 42# injectors. Better safe then sorry when it comes to fueling.
