Hey guys i got some pipe from a friend of mine thats 3 1/4" inside diameter and the walls are 1/8" thick, i know its 304 stainless but is this way to heavy (This elbow is 3 lbs) for the down pipe for my PT88 turbo? and better yet is this big enough to get the job done, i was really wanting a 4" down pipe but its not everyday u run across this pipe for FREE! oh yeah and anyone know what schedule pipe this is, i was thinking 10... Thanks guys any recommendations will be great

i look at it like this, the downpipe is subjected to the hottest part of the turbo. so do you want some cheap thin gauge metal or overkill? and it should be big enough for your needs. have seen most guys here running incredible power levels and track times on just 3" downpipes cause thats all the room they have

There is such a thing as hanging too much weight off the turbo housing. Close-tolerance rotating equipment have max nozzle loads and moments that if exceeded, will distort the case. Stainless steel also expands and contracts more with temperature than carbon steels. With such a rigid downpipe, something has to take the stress.
